The Berks County SWAT team was activated in the early morning hours on 12/04/09 for a heavily armed barricaded subject with a possible hostage. The Region 2 Tactical EMS group responded at 0101 hrs to the stagging area just outside of Birdsboro with the BCERT team. After an approx 3 1/2 hr standoff the incident ended without any major injuries and one male in police custody. A female in the residence was also evaluated by TEMS personnel and the team went available after a post incident debrief. After the incident cleared TEMS personnel reported to Lehigh County for a VIP protection detail for President Obama with the Lehigh County SWAT team. The incident cleared just after 1600 hrs.
